Cabgan Island, Surigao Exploration

Tisoy Traveler Part II

Goes to…

                 Cabgan Island

Part I..   Travel Guide to Surigao no. 1

And when I went back to the place for the 2nd time around my main target was not just their main tourist attraction but to explore the entire province of Surigao del Sur, because I found out that they have more. Did you know that they have the best beaches and islands too and one of those is “Cabgan Island” found in Municipality of Barobo right next Tagbina and Hinatuan?

The island is never been discovered by the public like it was so virgin and untouchable even people of Barobo but it really safe. There are two families who lived there according to people of Barobo but I never encountered them maybe in middle part, the island is just a small one that you can walk around for more than an hour, full of tress and there’s a cliff right behind, no accommodation, no electricity, water to drink, even comfort room and if you’re planning to go there just bring your own food, because the feeling when you reach there like you’re feeling lost or “Survivor philippines” if you knew that, but I like idea. The island is extremely beautiful, white shoreline and of course crystal blue water. Right beside the island is an island too named “Turtle Island” it is because of the shape like a turtle.

How to get there:

  1. If you read my Exploring Surigao del Sur Part I in the above link, actually the sequence of itinerary is there.
  2. Coming from Hinatuan you have to ride a bus or motorcycle “habal-habal” to reach Barobo in North part for about an hour. Bus fare around Php50/head but you have to wait and motorcycle fare around Php100/head which is the easiest way.
  3. When you reach Barobo tell the driver to drop you at the old public market nearby the sea.
  4. Boatmen “bangkero” are available in the area but most of them are taking advantage of you, so I do suggest Kuya Jojo +639488573810 if he’s not around there’s another one Kuya Danny +639488656460 you can contact them thru that number, they will not take advantage on you and they have a good heart like we pay Php1000 back and forth.
  5. Going in the island it takes about 25min-35min to reach there. You can see the island already.
  6. We stay there for a night and we bring our tents there.

Accommodation:

You will never be spending money there. Since the island has no accommodation yet all you have to do is bring with your tents and your food during your stay.

Activities:

  1. You can do camping on the island.
  2. Swimming in the crystal-blue water.
  3. Bonfire at night.
  4. You can do your games there since the island has a huge shoreline.
  5. Walking the entire island if you wanted to.
  6. and etc.

Travel Notes:

  1. Search the area first before going there. (safety and security, availability of transportation, accommodation, foods and etc.)
  2. Map and Guidelines.
  3. Create your itinerary for the sequence of your travel. (where first, stop for your meal, activities in the area, the time you’ll be spending in that area, the most important is where to sleep and etc.)
  4. Budget or Money. (the cost or expenses of your travel.)
  5. What to bring. (camera, phone, power bank, charger, necessities or travel kit, your medicine, the tent just in case, and much more important to bring.
  6. Take note of the travel time and how long you will be staying in that particular area.
  7. Preparation (when, where and what to do) so that everything will be okay.
  8. You have to consider the events (summer, the influx of tourist and the most important is the weather).

That was part of my itinerary because I am very curious about the island of how beautiful it is as I heard it. And I’m not disappointed because the island is really amazing and that’s the first time in my life to go a virgin island like that who has nothing and I like the idea.
