Malitbog, Bukidnon. is a municipality located in the northeast part of Bukidnon province?  According to locals the first name of the town was “Abo-on” its from the name of those first groups of people who settled in the area. Now the name was then changed as “Malitbog” came from the name of their river itself “Malitbog River” where most people go fishing as their main source of livelihood.

Today, the town is a booming tourist destination by the help of the locals and private sectors, most of the site especially in the highest location people are now developing it for attraction purposes because of the stunning view of their mountains, will somehow locals can benefit as a tour guide and to as a major source of income. One of those booming spots in Malitbog is situated in Sitio Pigsuguan – perfect for those who wanted and witness the beautiful appearance of sunrise and the magnificent disappearance by sunset. And in Sitio Lower – for the adventure seeker, while a place like no other awaits you.

How to get there:

1. From Manila, there are daily flights either Cagayan de Oro City which is the nearest entry point to Bukidnon and Davao City which also an entry point of going there.
2. Davao City. Coming from there, take a signed bus “Cagayan” at Ecoland Bus Terminal. The fare is around Php400 – Php650/head per one way depending on the bus (non-air/aircon bus) and roughly 6hrs to 7hrs bus ride of getting there. Just tell the driver to drop you at Gaisano Puerto, then ask the locals to guide you along with the terminal station to Malitbog.
3. Cagayan de Oro City. From there, take a tricycle “pedicab” or motorcycle “habal-habal” and tell the driver that your off to Malitbog terminal station just near Gaisano Puerto. The fare is Php50/head oneway and took you around 1hr and a half to reach the town of Malitbog.
4. Note: For those coming from Davao and wanted hassle-free especially groups. I know someone who can handle and arrange your tour the same as this itinerary, just feel free to message me on Facebook and will give you the said person (highly recommended). 
5. When you reach the town proper of Malitbog, motorcycle “habal-habal” is available to/from “La Prisha” in Sitio Pigsuguan. The fare depends on the driver or on your haggling abilities. Most probably, 30min and then you’ll reach the said place.
6. From there, the “Sampiano River” in Sitio Lower is accessible by the use of motorcycle “habal-habal” which is available in La Prisha and better ask the staff for them to book the said trip. The road is much worst than the first one but definitely worth the travel.

Note: The place is accessible to any type of vehicle but suggests to use a 4×4 truck because of their road conditions. Van/SUV will do.

Where to stay: 

Apparently, the site designed for camping, so their accommodation is an outdoor style using tents. I suggest for those who wanted an overnight stay in the place and having a brew in front of their epic sunrise, you just need to bring your tent or camping materials with you although it is available there it’s only limited and better to secure your own than having a necessary cost of Php300 – Php400 per tent depends on the size. For inquiries and reservations, you can visit their page at click here and or you may contact 0917-6252-884 and look for Ms. Cassandra/the Owner. 

 

Where to eat:

Food stalls are available neither in La Prisha or Golda’s and also they can cook simple meals/breakfast for you (see image below) with coffee for a reasonable price. They can also prepare your lunch while you’re in the Sampiano river having a nice time, and of course, the place is absolutely corkage free so the best idea for you to bring your own food by your own taste.

• Weekdays or lean days (to avoid the influx of tourists)
• Summer (for its nice weather)
• Best for Side Trip (when you’re in CDO)

 

Travel Notes:

1. Search the area first before going there. (safety and security first, availability of transportation, accommodation, foods and etc.)
2. Create your itinerary for the sequence of your travel. (where first, stop for your meal, activities in the area, the time you’ll be spending in that area, the most important is where to stay and etc.)
3. Budget or Money. (the cost or expenses of your travel.)
4. What to bring. (camera, phone, power bank, charger, necessities or travel kit, your medicine, tent if you are camping in the beach/island, and more important to bring.)
5. If you travel in a group better to seek a rented van or what depends on you so that you can go with your itinerary directly and less budget of course.
6. If you’re a solo traveler, you own your time so better to have a map or guidelines and extra money of course.

(Solo or Group has its own advantages and disadvantages when it comes to travel.)

7. Take note of the travel time and how long you will be staying in that particular area.
8. You have to consider the events. (summer, the influx of tourist and the most important is the weather).
9. Also, preparation. (when, where and what to do) so that everything will be okay.
10. Lastly, be a responsible tourist and a traveler.
