How to get there:

  1. From Manila, there are daily flights either Cagayan de Oro City which is the nearest entry point to Bukidnon and Davao City which also an entry point of going there.
  2. Davao City. Coming from there, take a signed bus “Cagayan” at Ecoland Bus Terminal. The fare is around Php400 – Php650/head per one way depending on the bus (non-air/aircon bus) and roughly 6hrs to 7hrs bus ride of getting there. Just tell the driver to drop you at Gaisano Puerto, then ask the locals to guide you along with the terminal station to Malitbog.
  3. Cagayan de Oro City. From there, take a tricycle “pedicab” or motorcycle “habal-habal” and tell the driver that your off to Malitbog terminal station just near Gaisano Puerto. The fare is Php50/head oneway and took you around 1hr and a half to reach the town of Malitbog.
  4. Note: For those coming from Davao and wanted hassle-free especially groups. I know someone who can handle and arrange your tour the same as this itinerary, just feel free to message me on Facebook and will give you the said person (highly recommended).
  5. When you reach the town proper of Malitbog, motorcycle “habal-habal” is available to/from “La Prisha” in Sitio Pigsuguan. The fare depends on the driver or on your haggling abilities. Most probably, 30min and then you’ll reach the said place.
  6. From there, the Sampiano River” in Sitio Lower is accessible by the use of motorcycle “habal-habal” which is available in La Prisha and better ask the staff for them to book the said trip. The road is much worst than the first one but definitely worth the travel.

Note: The place is accessible to any type of vehicle but suggests to use a 4×4 truck because of their road conditions. Van/SUV will do.

Note: Always ask the locals.

Where to stay:

Apparently, the site designed for camping, so their accommodation is an outdoor style using tents. I suggest for those who wanted an overnight stay in the place and having a brew in front of their epic sunrise, you just need to bring your tent or camping materials with you although it is available there it’s only limited and better to secure your own than having a necessary cost of Php300 – Php400 per tent depends on the size. For inquiries and reservations, you can visit their page at click here and or you may contact 0917-6252-884 and look for Ms. Cassandra/the Owner

Where to eat:

Food stalls are available neither in La Prisha or Golda’s and also they can cook simple meals/breakfast for you (see image below) with coffee for a reasonable price. They can also prepare your lunch while you’re in the Sampiano river having a nice time, and of course, the place is absolutely corkage free so the best idea for you to bring your own food by your own taste.

Their About:

  1. Entrance Fee: (Php20/head – La Prisha de Jamela, Php20/head – Golda’s and FREE – Sampiano River)
  2. Tents: Php300/depends on the size
  3. No Food Corkage
  4. No Parking Fee

Note: not fully developed and still on progress.

Things to do:

  1. Picnic
  2. Picture Taking
  3. Day & Night Camping
  4. River Trekking (Sampiano River)
  5. Roaming with the Locals
  6. Unwind and Relax

When to go:

  • Weekdays or lean days (to avoid the influx of tourists)
  • Summer (for its nice weather)
  • Best for Side Trip (when you’re in CDO)

Travel Notes:

  1. Search the area first before going there. (safety and security first, availability of transportation, accommodation, foods and etc.)
  2. Create your itinerary for the sequence of your travel. (where first, stop for your meal, activities in the area, the time you’ll be spending in that area, the most important is where to stay and etc.)
  3. Budget or Money. (the cost or expenses of your travel.)
  4. What to bring. (camera, phone, power bank, charger, necessities or travel kit, your medicine, tent if you are camping in the beach/island, and more important to bring.)
  5. If you travel in a group better to seek a rented van or what depends on you so that you can go with your itinerary directly and less budget of course.
  6. If you’re a solo traveler, you own your time so better to have a map or guidelines and extra money of course.

(Solo or Group has its own advantages and disadvantages when it comes to travel.)

  1. Take note of the travel time and how long you will be staying in that particular area.
  2. You have to consider the events. (summer, the influx of tourist and the most important is the weather).
  3. Also, preparation. (when, where and what to do) so that everything will be okay.
  4. Lastly, be a responsible tourist and a traveler.

How to get there:

  1. From Manila, there are daily flights directly to Davao City, which is the entry point to Davao del Norte particular in New Corella.
  2. From the airport, the best way is to catch a bus/van right in front of the airport. Actually, those bus/van passes there are off to North of Mindanao. Just take any bus/van, they are most likely going/passing in Tagum City. The fare is Php100 and took you an hour of getting there.
  3. Upon reaching the terminal station in Tagum City, the terminal to New Corella is on the other side in front of their bus terminal. Jeepneys are basically, the primary mode of transportation from the city to other nearby municipalities.
  4. Of those, take a “New Corella” route jeep and took you only 30 mins travel time to reach the town proper of New Corella. The fare is only a Php30/head basis.
  5. From there, tricycle “pedicabs” and motorcycle “habal-habal” are available off/to Panas Waterfalls. Just tell the driver where you headed off and the fare is Php30 individually and took you less than 25 mins to reach the said falls.

Note: always ask the locals.

Where to stay:

I highly suggest only a day tour since the place is still on the process of improvements. Day tour cottages are available with a minimal fee but for those who wanted to stay there overnight, sad to say but there are no available rooms (on-hold) and cottages to stay for a night. And of course, they highly discourage camping in the area for the moment, I guess for mosquitoes bites, and or most important thing is for safety and security purposes.

Note: In case, you bring your tents, camping materials and wanted to stay there for a night, please ask assistance to the people there especially the LGU-Tourism Office, since they are the ones who operated the resort and most likely staying there overnight is subject for approval.

Where to eat:

Food stalls are available near the entrance and also across the river, there is a store that is owned privately which you can buy your basic needs, snacks, and drinks. I highly advised bringing your food with you because the restaurant is not available in the area and or nearby.

Resort About:

  1. Entrance Fee: Php30/head
  2. Parking Fee: Php10/vehicle
  3. Table & Chairs: Php100 – actually it depends
  4. Cottages: Php300 – Php400 – good for groups
  5. No Food Corkage

Things to do:

  1. Picnic
  2. Swimming
  3. Day Camping
  4. Falls/River Trekking
  5. Eat and Play
  6. Unwind and Relax

  • Weekdays or lean days (to avoid the influx of tourists)
  • Summer (soothing cool water)

Tisoy Traveler

Goes to…

Sitio Maupot, Magpet

Sitio Maupot is a Bali Inspired Resort situated in Brgy. Pangaoan, Magpet, North Cotabato which features a sky cafe and bar, the scenic and overlooking view, picturesque and instagrammable escapade. This resort is not only for those who seek peaceful settings, but they also provide activities such as ATV and UTV rides for those who feel their stay boring. And I loved the idea where the resort nestled right on the cliff facing the beautiful and majestic view of Mt. Apo.

The resort is a perfect place for quick escape and relaxation, best for any occasion and a must travel destination for those who wanted to be back with nature. This place is the newest and one of the best spots in the province of North Cotabato, some called it the “romantic getaway” because of the atmosphere and the cool breeze, clean and refreshing perfect for couples and lovers. Surely a great place for rest and relaxation for those who wanted away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

“Fetam Klego” Sinapulan Underground River

Tisoy Traveler

Goes to…

                 Columbio, Sultan Kudarat

Fetam Klego is a hidden gem nestled in Sitio Asmakul Basag, Brgy. Sinapulan, Columbio, Province of Sultan Kudarat right at the boundary of Brgy. Colonsabak, Matanao, Province of Davao del Sur. The term “fetam klego” came from the B’laan word means “underground river”, serves us one of the tourist spot in Columbio and same with the municipality of Matanao. Both sides of either barangays are mainly composed of native B’laan tribe where the rich culture and dialect are preserved.

The trek to the underground river is very picturesque, where you’ll be amazed by beautiful views and landscapes, stunning hills and mountains, fresh air and clean water that soothes your skin, embrace one true color of nature, and experience the thrill of fun while hiking. The said event is perfect for those who seek an adrenalin dose and nature lovers looking for a spot to dig and dip and divert the hustle and bustle in the city.

How to get there:

  1. From Manila, there are daily flights directly to Davao City which is the entry point to Matanao, Davao del Sur.
  2. At the airport, you can ride a taxi off to Ecoland Bus Terminal. Or bus (easiest way) right in front of the airport, most likely bus that is passing/going to city proper will stop at Ecoland bus station.
  3. From there, take a signed bus “Bansalan” “Kidapawan” and even “Cotabato” those routes are passing in the town of Matanao. Van is available outside of the terminal or in front of SM, same sign if you will take a van going there. The fare is Php100/head oneway and took to 1hr and half or 2hrs to get there.
  4. Tell the driver to drop you down at Km. 71. From there, motorcycle/tricycle are available off to the town proper of Matanao. The fare is Php20/head and took only minutes to reach the town.
  5. From the town motorcycle, “habal-habal” are available or if you are lucky enough to catch a jeepney either from km. 71 or from the town heading to Brgy. Bangkal much better (fewer expenses).
  6. Then from Brgy. Bangkal motorcycle is available to rent and your haggling abilities are needed in dealing “habal-habal” drivers.

Note: This is the easiest way to get there since it is situated right at the boundary of both province of Davao del Sur and Sultan Kudarat. Better to book a guide/driver first from Matanao or bring your vehicle with you and ask a guide at the tourism office in Matanao because transportation is a bit lacking in these part of Matanao.  As I always said, “ask the locals”.

Where to stay:

If you guys planning to stay a night there, I’m sorry to tell you but there’s no available accommodation in the area and even in the town proper of Matanao. I guess, better to have a contact person in Matanao if you want to stay a night before and plan to trek early morning in the said spot.

Where to eat:

I highly advise to bring your own food or buy some, either in the town proper of Matanao or Brgy. Bangkal, small restaurants/canteen “carenderia” are available, because of theres no available food stall in the area or along the way going there.

Things to do:

  1. Trekking/Hiking
  2. Picture Taking (views and scenery)
  3. Fetam Klego (underground river)
  4. Seven Falls
  5. Swimming
  6. Caving
  7. Roaming around (embracing locals)
  8. Side Trips (famous bibingka by MERS, hopia by JOPOYS both in Digos City, Federico’s Resort and Bugak Spring also in Matanao)

When to go:

  • Weekdays or lean days (to avoid the influx of tourist)
  • Summer (for its cold water)
  • Araw ng Davao del Sur (21st of June onwards)
  • Matanao Fiesta (24th of September)

Travel Notes:

  1. Search the area first before going there. (safety and security first, availability of transportation, accommodation, foods and etc.)
  2. Create your itinerary for the sequence of your travel. (where first, stop for your meal, activities in the area, the time you’ll be spending in that area, the most important is where to stay and etc.)

Tisoy Traveler

Kidapawan, officially the City of Kidapawan, is a 3rd class city and a provincial capital of Cotabato, Philippines. It is located at the foot of Mt. Apo and home of our Muslim families. A popular destination in summer for its cold weather and especially for those tourists who loved hiking and climbing the country’s highest mountain “Mt. Apo”.

The city holds a festival in every month of August called “TIMPUPO Festival” known as fruit festival, celebrating the harvest and abundance of exotic fruits that commonly grown in the area. One of the main reasons why Kidapawan is really a visited spot because it is a starting point for trekking on Mt. Apo.

Lake Agco in Sitio Agco, Ilomavis, Kidapwan is a well-known tourist spot in the place. There you can see literally the lake is boiling so hot with smoke. Surround the lake are muds that are rich in sulfur that people believed its good for the skin, that’s why people go there have it all over their body and some use it as a facial mud mask and one is the healing spring that people say it can cure certain illnesses and removes toxins from your body.

  2. You have to consider the events (summer, the influx of tourists and the most important is the weather).
  3. Also, preparation (when, where and what to do) so that everything will be organized.
  4. Lastly, be a responsible tourist and a traveler.

I hope all your questions can be found on this blog. If not, my pleasure to answer those.

“The Oriental Paradise”

Tisoy Traveler

Goes to…

                     Baganga & Cateel, Davao Oriental

Baganga, officially the Municipality of Baganga, is a 1st class municipality in the province of Davao Oriental, Philippines. Baganga got its name from referring to a big mouth of a river that traversed the central part of the town. It is the largest among the municipalities and city in the province in terms of land area.

The municipality holds a festival in every 2nd-3rd week month of May called “KALIMASDA Festival” known for a unique culture from the town of Lucod in Baganga, that best reflects the diversity, solidarity, and prosperity of the town, that quite somehow attract the tourists.

If you think about the Pacific destination, Davao Oriental in Baganga is very known of that. This small town has a lot to offer and no wonder why tourists, both local and international loved to visit the place so called “Oriental’s Paradise”. From sea and green, name it and they’ll have it. Home of the famous “Aliwagwag Falls” known as the highest cascading waterfalls in the country and one of the main reason why tourists keep on coming back Davao Oriental.

These and among the others await you there.

How to get there:

  1. From Manila and Cebu, there are daily flights directly to Davao City, which is the entry point to Banganga, Davao Oriental.
  2. From the airport, either you ride a taxi or bus right in front of the airport, most likely bus and a van that is passing there are going to Ecoland Bus Terminal (Davao signed bus/van, off to south or downtown area).
  3. In there, best to catch is van just right in front of the terminal station (easiest and fastest way) to get off to Banganga and Cateel. Going there is two way, either via Mati (6-7hrs) or via ComVal (4-5hrs), I guess they are most likely passing the ComVal way now. The fare is around Php350/head.
  4. When you get there, motorcycle “habal-habal” is available to rent were to/from for Php500 package for the whole day trip.

Note: Always ask the locals.

Suggestions:

  1. Best to leave at dawn like 2am/3am.
  2. Banganga trip is best for group travel, (multicab rental is available in the area for Php1500).
  3. For solo and backpacker, (you can rent a motorcycle for Php500 day tour trip)
  4. Tourist spots are a bit far from each other, (secure a plan/itinerary).

Accommodation:
One that I can recommend to you especially for those backpackers and solo travelers like me is the San Victor Island in San Victor, Banganga they offer accommodation for those who wanted to stay overnight at the small island. They have rooms for two and even for groups, also offer tent rental for those who don’t bring their camping tent with them, because the island is best for a camping site. A simple and tiny island with its own perfect beauty of nature.
Also, I can suggest the Edar’s Place in Cateel, located nearly at the Mallen bus station where you can book your bus ticket going back to Davao soon. The place is nice and clean, just don’t ask for more especially a kind of province that is not booming yet. They offer room stay for two or for a group of people, price range to Php1000 up to Php1500 for a night stay accommodation.

Things to do:

  1. San Victor Island (Php25 boat fee, Php25 island fee, Php10 environmental fee)
  2. Curtain Falls (Php5 entrance fee, Php100 table fee)
  3. Aliwagwag Falls (Php50 entrance fee)
  4. Lake Carolina (Php5 entrance fee)
  5. Kalimasda Festival (12-20 of May)
  6. Seaside/ Boulevard
  7. Mangrove Sanctuary
  8. Town Tour

Travel Notes:

  1. Search the area first before going there. (the availability of transportation, accommodation, foods and etc.)
  2. Create your itinerary for the sequence of your travel. (where first, stop for your meal, activities in the area, the time you’ll be spending in that area, the most important is where to stay and etc.)
  3. Budget or Money. (the cost or expenses of your travel.)
  4. What to bring. (camera, phone, power bank, charger, necessities or travel kit, your medicine, the tent just in case, and much more important to bring.

  2. You have to consider the events (summer, the influx of tourist and the most important is the weather).
  1. Lastly, preparation (when, where and what to do) so that everything will be organized.

I’m very hoping that this blog helps you guys as your guide, as you explore the oriental paradise of Baganga, Davao Oriental.

Enjoy and have a safe trip.
