How to get there:

  1. From Manila, there are daily flights either Cagayan de Oro City which is the nearest entry point to Bukidnon and Davao City which also an entry point of going there.
  2. Davao City. Coming from there, take a signed bus “Cagayan” at Ecoland Bus Terminal. The fare is around Php400 – Php650/head per one way depending on the bus (non-air/aircon bus) and roughly 6hrs to 7hrs bus ride of getting there. Just tell the driver to drop you at Gaisano Puerto, then ask the locals to guide you along with the terminal station to Malitbog.
  3. Cagayan de Oro City. From there, take a tricycle “pedicab” or motorcycle “habal-habal” and tell the driver that your off to Malitbog terminal station just near Gaisano Puerto. The fare is Php50/head oneway and took you around 1hr and a half to reach the town of Malitbog.
  4. Note: For those coming from Davao and wanted hassle-free especially groups. I know someone who can handle and arrange your tour the same as this itinerary, just feel free to message me on Facebook and will give you the said person (highly recommended).
  5. When you reach the town proper of Malitbog, motorcycle “habal-habal” is available to/from “La Prisha” in Sitio Pigsuguan. The fare depends on the driver or on your haggling abilities. Most probably, 30min and then you’ll reach the said place.
  6. From there, the Sampiano River” in Sitio Lower is accessible by the use of motorcycle “habal-habal” which is available in La Prisha and better ask the staff for them to book the said trip. The road is much worst than the first one but definitely worth the travel.

Note: The place is accessible to any type of vehicle but suggests to use a 4×4 truck because of their road conditions. Van/SUV will do.

Note: Always ask the locals.

Where to stay:

Apparently, the site designed for camping, so their accommodation is an outdoor style using tents. I suggest for those who wanted an overnight stay in the place and having a brew in front of their epic sunrise, you just need to bring your tent or camping materials with you although it is available there it’s only limited and better to secure your own than having a necessary cost of Php300 – Php400 per tent depends on the size. For inquiries and reservations, you can visit their page at click here and or you may contact 0917-6252-884 and look for Ms. Cassandra/the Owner

Where to eat:

Food stalls are available neither in La Prisha or Golda’s and also they can cook simple meals/breakfast for you (see image below) with coffee for a reasonable price. They can also prepare your lunch while you’re in the Sampiano river having a nice time, and of course, the place is absolutely corkage free so the best idea for you to bring your own food by your own taste.

Their About:

  1. Entrance Fee: (Php20/head – La Prisha de Jamela, Php20/head – Golda’s and FREE – Sampiano River)
  2. Tents: Php300/depends on the size
  3. No Food Corkage
  4. No Parking Fee

Note: not fully developed and still on progress.

Things to do:

  1. Picnic
  2. Picture Taking
  3. Day & Night Camping
  4. River Trekking (Sampiano River)
  5. Roaming with the Locals
  6. Unwind and Relax

When to go:

  • Weekdays or lean days (to avoid the influx of tourists)
  • Summer (for its nice weather)
  • Best for Side Trip (when you’re in CDO)

Travel Notes:

  1. Search the area first before going there. (safety and security first, availability of transportation, accommodation, foods and etc.)
  2. Create your itinerary for the sequence of your travel. (where first, stop for your meal, activities in the area, the time you’ll be spending in that area, the most important is where to stay and etc.)
  3. Budget or Money. (the cost or expenses of your travel.)
  4. What to bring. (camera, phone, power bank, charger, necessities or travel kit, your medicine, tent if you are camping in the beach/island, and more important to bring.)
  5. If you travel in a group better to seek a rented van or what depends on you so that you can go with your itinerary directly and less budget of course.
  6. If you’re a solo traveler, you own your time so better to have a map or guidelines and extra money of course.

(Solo or Group has its own advantages and disadvantages when it comes to travel.)

  1. Take note of the travel time and how long you will be staying in that particular area.
  2. You have to consider the events. (summer, the influx of tourist and the most important is the weather).
  3. Also, preparation. (when, where and what to do) so that everything will be okay.
  4. Lastly, be a responsible tourist and a traveler.

How to get there:

  1. From Manila, there are daily flights directly to Davao City, which is the entry point to Davao del Norte particular in New Corella.
  2. From the airport, the best way is to catch a bus/van right in front of the airport. Actually, those bus/van passes there are off to North of Mindanao. Just take any bus/van, they are most likely going/passing in Tagum City. The fare is Php100 and took you an hour of getting there.
  3. Upon reaching the terminal station in Tagum City, the terminal to New Corella is on the other side in front of their bus terminal. Jeepneys are basically, the primary mode of transportation from the city to other nearby municipalities.
  4. Of those, take a “New Corella” route jeep and took you only 30 mins travel time to reach the town proper of New Corella. The fare is only a Php30/head basis.
  5. From there, tricycle “pedicabs” and motorcycle “habal-habal” are available off/to Panas Waterfalls. Just tell the driver where you headed off and the fare is Php30 individually and took you less than 25 mins to reach the said falls.

Note: always ask the locals.

Where to stay:

I highly suggest only a day tour since the place is still on the process of improvements. Day tour cottages are available with a minimal fee but for those who wanted to stay there overnight, sad to say but there are no available rooms (on-hold) and cottages to stay for a night. And of course, they highly discourage camping in the area for the moment, I guess for mosquitoes bites, and or most important thing is for safety and security purposes.

Note: In case, you bring your tents, camping materials and wanted to stay there for a night, please ask assistance to the people there especially the LGU-Tourism Office, since they are the ones who operated the resort and most likely staying there overnight is subject for approval.

Where to eat:

Food stalls are available near the entrance and also across the river, there is a store that is owned privately which you can buy your basic needs, snacks, and drinks. I highly advised bringing your food with you because the restaurant is not available in the area and or nearby.

Resort About:

  1. Entrance Fee: Php30/head
  2. Parking Fee: Php10/vehicle
  3. Table & Chairs: Php100 – actually it depends
  4. Cottages: Php300 – Php400 – good for groups
  5. No Food Corkage

Things to do:

  1. Picnic
  2. Swimming
  3. Day Camping
  4. Falls/River Trekking
  5. Eat and Play
  6. Unwind and Relax

When to go:

  • Weekdays or lean days (to avoid the influx of tourists)
  • Summer (soothing cool water)

Travel Notes:

  1. Search the area first before going there. (safety and security first, availability of transportation, accommodation, foods and etc.)
  2. Create your itinerary for the sequence of your travel. (where first, stop for your meal, activities in the area, the time you’ll be spending in that area, the most important is where to stay and etc.)
  3. Budget or Money. (the cost or expenses of your travel.)
  4. What to bring. (camera, phone, power bank, charger, neccessities or travel kit, your medicine, tent if you are camping in the beach/island, and more important to bring.)
  5. If you travel in a group better to seek a rented van or what depends on you so that you can go with your itinerary directly and less budget of course.
  6. If you’re a solo traveler, you own your time so better to have a map or guidelines and extra money of course.

The “Bali Village” in North Cotabato

Tisoy Traveler

Goes to…

Sitio Maupot, Magpet

Sitio Maupot is a Bali Inspired Resort situated in Brgy. Pangaoan, Magpet, North Cotabato which features a sky cafe and bar, the scenic and overlooking view, picturesque and instagrammable escapade. This resort is not only for those who seek peaceful settings, but they also provide activities such as ATV and UTV rides for those who feel their stay boring. And I loved the idea where the resort nestled right on the cliff facing the beautiful and majestic view of Mt. Apo.

The resort is a perfect place for quick escape and relaxation, best for any occasion and a must travel destination for those who wanted to be back with nature. This place is the newest and one of the best spots in the province of North Cotabato, some called it the “romantic getaway” because of the atmosphere and the cool breeze, clean and refreshing perfect for couples and lovers. Surely a great place for rest and relaxation for those who wanted away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

“Fetam Klego” Sinapulan Underground River

Tisoy Traveler

Goes to…

                 Columbio, Sultan Kudarat

Fetam Klego is a hidden gem nestled in Sitio Asmakul Basag, Brgy. Sinapulan, Columbio, Province of Sultan Kudarat right at the boundary of Brgy. Colonsabak, Matanao, Province of Davao del Sur. The term “fetam klego” came from the B’laan word means “underground river”, serves us one of the tourist spot in Columbio and same with the municipality of Matanao. Both sides of either barangays are mainly composed of native B’laan tribe where the rich culture and dialect are preserved.

The trek to the underground river is very picturesque, where you’ll be amazed by beautiful views and landscapes, stunning hills and mountains, fresh air and clean water that soothes your skin, embrace one true color of nature, and experience the thrill of fun while hiking. The said event is perfect for those who seek an adrenalin dose and nature lovers looking for a spot to dig and dip and divert the hustle and bustle in the city.

How to get there:

  1. From Manila, there are daily flights directly to Davao City which is the entry point to Matanao, Davao del Sur.
  2. At the airport, you can ride a taxi off to Ecoland Bus Terminal. Or bus (easiest way) right in front of the airport, most likely bus that is passing/going to city proper will stop at Ecoland bus station.
  3. From there, take a signed bus “Bansalan” “Kidapawan” and even “Cotabato” those routes are passing in the town of Matanao. Van is available outside of the terminal or in front of SM, same sign if you will take a van going there. The fare is Php100/head oneway and took to 1hr and half or 2hrs to get there.
  4. Tell the driver to drop you down at Km. 71. From there, motorcycle/tricycle are available off to the town proper of Matanao. The fare is Php20/head and took only minutes to reach the town.
  5. From the town motorcycle, “habal-habal” are available or if you are lucky enough to catch a jeepney either from km. 71 or from the town heading to Brgy. Bangkal much better (fewer expenses).
  6. Then from Brgy. Bangkal motorcycle is available to rent and your haggling abilities are needed in dealing “habal-habal” drivers.

Note: This is the easiest way to get there since it is situated right at the boundary of both province of Davao del Sur and Sultan Kudarat. Better to book a guide/driver first from Matanao or bring your vehicle with you and ask a guide at the tourism office in Matanao because transportation is a bit lacking in these part of Matanao.  As I always said, “ask the locals”.

Where to stay:

If you guys planning to stay a night there, I’m sorry to tell you but there’s no available accommodation in the area and even in the town proper of Matanao. I guess, better to have a contact person in Matanao if you want to stay a night before and plan to trek early morning in the said spot.

Where to eat:

I highly advise to bring your own food or buy some, either in the town proper of Matanao or Brgy. Bangkal, small restaurants/canteen “carenderia” are available, because of theres no available food stall in the area or along the way going there.

Things to do:

  1. Trekking/Hiking
  2. Picture Taking (views and scenery)
  3. Fetam Klego (underground river)
  4. Seven Falls
  5. Swimming
  6. Caving
  7. Roaming around (embracing locals)
  8. Side Trips (famous bibingka by MERS, hopia by JOPOYS both in Digos City, Federico’s Resort and Bugak Spring also in Matanao)

When to go:

  • Weekdays or lean days (to avoid the influx of tourist)
  • Summer (for its cold water)
  • Araw ng Davao del Sur (21st of June onwards)
  • Matanao Fiesta (24th of September)

Travel Notes:

  1. Search the area first before going there. (safety and security first, availability of transportation, accommodation, foods and etc.)
  2. Create your itinerary for the sequence of your travel. (where first, stop for your meal, activities in the area, the time you’ll be spending in that area, the most important is where to stay and etc.)

Kidapawan, officially the City of Kidapawan, is a 3rd class city and a provincial capital of Cotabato, Philippines. It is located at the foot of Mt. Apo and home of our Muslim families. A popular destination in summer for its cold weather and especially for those tourists who loved hiking and climbing the country’s highest mountain “Mt. Apo”.

The city holds a festival in every month of August called “TIMPUPO Festival” known as fruit festival, celebrating the harvest and abundance of exotic fruits that commonly grown in the area. One of the main reasons why Kidapawan is really a visited spot because it is a starting point for trekking on Mt. Apo.

Lake Agco in Sitio Agco, Ilomavis, Kidapwan is a well-known tourist spot in the place. There you can see literally the lake is boiling so hot with smoke. Surround the lake are muds that are rich in sulfur that people believed its good for the skin, that’s why people go there have it all over their body and some use it as a facial mud mask and one is the healing spring that people say it can cure certain illnesses and removes toxins from your body.

  6. If you’re a solo traveler, you own your time so better to have a map or guidelines and extra money of course.

(Solo or Group has its own advantages and disadvantages when it comes to travel.)

  1. Take note of the travel time and how long you will be staying in that particular area.
  2. You have to consider the events (summer, the influx of tourists and the most important is the weather).
  3. Also, preparation (when, where and what to do) so that everything will be organized.
  4. Lastly, be a responsible tourist and a traveler.

I hope all your questions can be found on this blog. If not, my pleasure to answer those.

How to get there:

  1. From Manila and Cebu, there are daily flights directly to Davao City, which is the entry point to Banganga, Davao Oriental.
  2. From the airport, either you ride a taxi or bus right in front of the airport, most likely bus and a van that is passing there are going to Ecoland Bus Terminal (Davao signed bus/van, off to south or downtown area).
  3. In there, best to catch is van just right in front of the terminal station (easiest and fastest way) to get off to Banganga and Cateel. Going there is two way, either via Mati (6-7hrs) or via ComVal (4-5hrs), I guess they are most likely passing the ComVal way now. The fare is around Php350/head.
  4. When you get there, motorcycle “habal-habal” is available to rent were to/from for Php500 package for the whole day trip.

Note: Always ask the locals.

Suggestions:

  1. Best to leave at dawn like 2am/3am.
  2. Banganga trip is best for group travel, (multicab rental is available in the area for Php1500).
  3. For solo and backpacker, (you can rent a motorcycle for Php500 day tour trip)
  4. Tourist spots are a bit far from each other, (secure a plan/itinerary).

Accommodation:
One that I can recommend to you especially for those backpackers and solo travelers like me is the San Victor Island in San Victor, Banganga they offer accommodation for those who wanted to stay overnight at the small island. They have rooms for two and even for groups, also offer tent rental for those who don’t bring their camping tent with them, because the island is best for a camping site. A simple and tiny island with its own perfect beauty of nature.
Also, I can suggest the Edar’s Place in Cateel, located nearly at the Mallen bus station where you can book your bus ticket going back to Davao soon. The place is nice and clean, just don’t ask for more especially a kind of province that is not booming yet. They offer room stay for two or for a group of people, price range to Php1000 up to Php1500 for a night stay accommodation.

Things to do:

  1. San Victor Island (Php25 boat fee, Php25 island fee, Php10 environmental fee)
  2. Curtain Falls (Php5 entrance fee, Php100 table fee)
  3. Aliwagwag Falls (Php50 entrance fee)
  4. Lake Carolina (Php5 entrance fee)
  5. Kalimasda Festival (12-20 of May)
  6. Seaside/ Boulevard
  7. Mangrove Sanctuary
  8. Town Tour

Travel Notes:

  1. Search the area first before going there. (the availability of transportation, accommodation, foods and etc.)
  2. Create your itinerary for the sequence of your travel. (where first, stop for your meal, activities in the area, the time you’ll be spending in that area, the most important is where to stay and etc.)
  3. Budget or Money. (the cost or expenses of your travel.)
  4. What to bring. (camera, phone, power bank, charger, necessities or travel kit, your medicine, the tent just in case, and much more important to bring.
  5. If you travel in a group better to seek a rented van or what depends on you so that you can go with your itinerary directly and less budget of course.

  1. Lastly, preparation (when, where and what to do) so that everything will be organized.

I’m very hoping that this blog helps you guys as your guide, as you explore the oriental paradise of Baganga, Davao Oriental.

Tisoy Traveler

Goes to…

                     Polomolok, South Cotabato

Polomolok is located between General Santos and Tupi. Officially the Municipality of Polomolok is a 1st class municipality in the province of South Cotabato, Philippines. It is the wealthiest, richest and one of the most competitive Municipality in Mindanao. Polomolok got its name from a B’laan term “flomlok” which means hunting grounds and being known for its abundance of wildlife.

The municipality is nestled at the based of the prominent and majestic “Mt. Matutum”. A cone-shaped volcano like the famous “Mt. Mayon” in Albay, and looms over the provinces and perhaps the most imposing landmark. They held a festival that represents the early inhabitants of the town called “FlomLok Festival”. It is the home of the DOLE Philippines, the largest industrial firm in growing, processing and exporting of fresh and canned pineapple.

Tisoy Traveler

                   Canibad, Samal

The island always never cease to amaze me. It keeps on telling me how magnificent it was when it comes to white sand beaches, majestic waterfalls, abundant marine life and of course a perfect crystal clear water of the beach. The scenic views and shoreline are really perfect come with a very quiet wave. The island is dotted with so many scenic spots, breathtaking views and for any water activities. Samal is just a minute away in Davao City proper and 24/7 barge transfer from Davao – Samal and vise versa.

Canibad is a hidden gem located in the east part of the island. It is located in Brgy. Aundanao, Penaplata District, Samal Island. The place is very famous in the island and by locals like if you talked someone from there and asked where you can find for a perfect beach that is truly be amazing, for sure the first beach that comes out in their mouth is Canibad. Unlike any beach resort on the island, Canibad is a perfect getaway experience that you never had before. Here you will find the best beach compose of the real beauty of nature, extraordinary landscape and stunning views above and beneath the sea water.

Primarily consist of many beaches namely; Canibad Hillside Resort, Canibad Hidden Resort, Canibad Paradise Resort, Madyaw Canibad and a many more. How to get there:

  1. From Manila and Cebu, there are daily flights directly to Davao City, where Samal Island located.
  2. From the airport, riding a multicab/jeepney going to Sasa Wharf is a complicated route unless you know the area and routes around the city. Better ride a taxi to make it easy, just tell the driver to drop you down at Sasa Wharf where you can ride a barge and ferry boats off to Samal Island.
  3. The said wharf is the entry point to Samal Island for those who have car or motorbike with you. Where buses, trucks and other vehicles take a barge ride to the island. Fare per person is Php10 per one way while vehicles depend on the types you are bringing with.
  4. Ferry boats are on the other side, the landmark is the overpass along the way. When you reach there just go inside the market till you reach the beach side where ferry boats park. The fare is Php12 per person per one way. Both drops down point are Babak in Samal.
  5. From Babak, tricycle and motorcycle local name “habal-habal” are available for rent where from/to. depends on how far the place is. Usual fare per way is Php20 and around Php200 for the farthest place in Samal.
  6. Basically, drivers from there ask you if you’re way off to Canibad, that’s how the place made really famous. It takes you 30-40mins to reach there and the fare is Php100 per way per person.
  7. Note. make sure to book the driver for your return trip to Babak soon, because transportation is a bit lacking in these part of the island.

Note: Ask always the locals.. so that people will not take advantage of you.

Accommodation:

The place is newly improved unlike before, now most of the resort in Canibad offers accommodation to their guest but quite expensive I guess, I knew it because from the rate of their table and chairs, open cottages, I don’t know if it is reasonable so if you are planning for an overnight stay in Canibad, better yet bring your tent with you. Food, still no restaurant but in every single resort there is a mini store for you to buy some goods so I encourage you to bring your own food, it’s okay coz there’s no corkage on top of those.
I talked three different person who’s from there asking some details and you know some of the price range. So we stayed all throughout the day at the first resort in Canibad and that’s Coshean Resort very nice and clean. It is the nearest to the jumping/diving cliff.

Canibad (Coshean Beach Resort)

Entrance Fee – Php40 day tour and Php80 overnight

Tables and Chairs – Php200 (under Talisay tree)

Open Cottage – Php1,600

Rooms Rates- ranges from Php3,000 and above per overnight stay

Tables and Chairs- starts at Php200 and up (day tour)

Open Cottages – starts at Php800 – Php2000 (day tour)

Room Rates – starts at Php2500 and up

Tent – Same rates

  2. Swimming and Snorkeling
  3. Great place for scuba divers
  4. Beach Sport: volleyball and etc.
  5. Cliff jumping/diving
  6. Beach Bumming

  2. Create your itinerary for the sequence of your travel. (where first, stop for your meal, activities in the area, the time you’ll be spending in that area, the most important is where to stay and etc.)
  3. Budget or Money. (the cost or expenses of your travel.)
  4. What to bring. (camera, phone, power bank, charger, necessities or travel kit, your medicine, tent if you are camping on the beach/island, and more important to bring.)

Samal Island Destination

Tisoy Traveler

Goes to…

                    Club Asiano Beach Resort

The island is a perfect getaway to enjoy and relax, breath a fresh air, hopping around the island, camp at the beach and experience the beauty of nature and its people. The island offers over 70 beach resort where you can choose to stay, pamper yourself and escape the city life. And one of those is Club Asiano.

Club Asiano, is one of the newest built resort in the island, primarily located in Brgy. Camudmud, Babak, Samal. The resort offers a very relaxing accommodation and cozy type surroundings that somehow ease those stressful events in your daily life and gives a pleasant and relief feeling to your body and soul into a refreshing one. Club Asiano is really designed for family and friends outing, small gatherings and of course for those lovers who find time for themselves.

The resort is quite small to cater to a large number of guest. The amenities and facilities are really nice and good enough to offer good service to their clientele. Now they have a newly built restobar/restaurant just to improve the area and provide more service that satisfied the needs of their guest. Accommodation is really good for every group of people and for a couple, reasonable I guess for a night stay at a very modest resort; sorry about my words coz I’m a backpacker traveler.

So what are you waiting for?. Come! chill and relax at Club Asiano.

Things to do:

Actually, the place is more on relaxation and chill all throughout the day. They have a small area that you can’t do your beach activities like volleyball and etc., only you can do there is swimming all day, videoke room to sing along, small billiard to play, a small activity area for small gatherings and nothing more I guess.

  2. You have to consider the events (summer, the influx of tourist and the most important is the weather).
  3. Lastly, preparation (when, where and what to do) so that everything will be okay.

Very hoping that these information guides you all throughout before going there.

Enjoy and have a safe trip.

South Cebu Destination

Tisoy Traveler

Goes to…

  1. Kawasan Falls
  2. Kabotongan Falls
  3. Aguinid Falls

Kawasan Falls is a getaway destination in the southwest part of Cebu to locals and foreigners alike. With its lush tropical trees and plants everywhere, the peaceful flow of the river as it gracefully rushes to the distant sea, the sound of the waterfalls on the background and the cool and deep freshwater, everything around just seems so relaxed, simple and very serene. Just nature as it should be. A gentle hush of rushing ice cool water. All these and the most famous now is Canyoneering in Badian Kawasan Falls!

Just 130 kilometers southwest of Cebu City and about 3 hours bus ride, the Kawasan Falls is located in the mountains of Barangay Matutinao, Badian. And from there the two remaining destinations are so easy to get into by renting a motorcycle or “habal-habal”.

Kabotongan Falls, primarily located in the next town in Malabuyoc. One of the hidden waterfalls in the south because of its location and the trek off to there, the falls is best for those who seek adventures and ultimate feeling. Kabotongan is a bit difficult to conquer that might pump your adrenaline and enough to feel that your muscles are working, its okay to felt that way when you knew that there is a satisfying waterfall awaits you at the end of those efforts. I guess the falls remains un touristed because of its wondrous beauty and magnificent rock formation.

Just less than 10 kilometers going south from Badian and about less than an hour bus ride or by just renting a motorcycle to reach Malabuyoc.

Aguinid Falls offers such escapade for those who loved the amazing beauty of waters and much of magical surroundings. Aguinid is situated in the town of Samboan right after those town mentioned above and about a couple of kilometers after Malabuyoc. The falls promoted as an ecotourism destination because of its majestic beauty and a multi-tiered waterfall system. It is a unique waterfall because you can see not one but more than a single waterfall that rock is beautifully shaped, amazing water compositions and you will be rewarded with a breathtaking experience with the underlying beauty of the waterfalls at the end.

20031902_1606269166083824_4352592789804762056_n

How to get there:

  1. From the airport, you can ride a bus going to the city proper and it takes 30 mins to get there, bus fare is the only Php25.

  2. From SM City Cebu where bus stop. SouthWing part of the mall you can find there the jeepney terminal and from there ride a jeep 10M (signed) or in front of the mall 10H (signed). The fare is only Php8 and tells the driver to drop you down at the crossing where South Bus Terminal located. if you can’t you can ride by taxi just tell the driver that you’re going to South Bus Terminal.

  3. In there just take a signed bus Bato via Barili not via Liloan coz its two way. Tell the conductor to drop you at Brgy. Matutinao in Badian where Kawasan Falls situated or better way tell them that you are off to go there and they will drop you down there. It takes almost 3-4 hours and fare of around Php170.

Canyoneering will cost you a lot, before were just paying Php1000/head for the entire exploration including our meal after, the updated price, for now, is Php1200 – Php1500/head depends on the pax/participants and no meals included.

  1. Right after your Kawasan Falls the closest falls next to it is the Kabotongan Falls where located in the next town in Malabuyoc going south. Better ride a motorcycle and tell him that you are off there. Actually, drop down point is along the highway and there’s no landmarks/signage so better ask the locals or the driver if he/they know it but I guess they knew it. Fare if the bus is Php25 and by motorcycle is Php50. It takes you half an hour to reach there.

Sometimes price depends on how good you are in terms of negotiating or your haggling abilities.

  1. After your Kabotongan Falls adventure your next stop would be Aguinid Falls, so you must be in the same location where the driver drops you down. In there you can wait for either bus or motorcycle and off to south again. Take a signed bus Bato and tell the driver that you are off to Samboan, actually, there is a signage about the falls when you reach or pass by there, a landmark I guess the small gym and there’s a small church/chapel. The fare is around Php50 and it takes about 30-40mins to reach there.

Note: Always ask the locals.

If you can catch an early trip at South Bus Terminal by 2:30am you can have that tour/itinerary in just one day. Always remember the signed bus Bato via Barili coz you are going southwest part not via Liloan coz that southeast part most likely going to Oslob.

Accommodation:

In these part actually is a bit lack of accommodation, I guess the nearest that have are in Moalboal before Badian, Alegria. There is the one actually right beside the Seven Eleven (7/11) store in Badian the name of that is Ging-Ging Inn. The rates per overnight stay are Php800 good for two people and not bad at all, just don’t expect too much for such a great accommodation coz its more than a hundred kilometers away from the city, but if you are a backpacker/traveler it doesn’t matter anyway. In Kawasan Falls they are also offering accommodation to their guest because now they are accepting guest who wants an overnight stay in the area. Range most probably around Php1000 per stay overnight, I don’t know if it is good for solo, two or group of people but that’s exactly the amount when I asked information. The place has its own restaurant offers foods and beverages were anytime you can make request/orders, so there’s nothing to worry about it.

Things to do:

  1. The adventure of Kawasan Falls Canyoneering.

  2. Kabotongan Falls Mountaineering

  3. Embracing the breath-taking cascade of crystal waters of Aguinid Falls.

  4. And the simple, very serene and relaxing sound of nature.

  5. The view of Negros Province from the sea.

  6. Beach hopping to/from that area.

The Hidden Paradise “South of Samal Island”

Tisoy Traveler

Goes to…
                          San Remigio, Samal

San Remigio. The called “virgin paradise” in Kaputian District, Samal Island, Davao del Norte. Located in the southern tip part of the island. The place is one of so many Barangay or “Sitio” in Kaputian that most of the people even in Davao don’t know yet that there is a hidden paradise in Kaputian, Samal and that would be in San Remigio.

Alorro Beach Resort

The resort is very quiet and simple opposition to the very expensive and majestic beauty of the beach in San Remigio, rich in colorful stones and corals, very authentic like sand and crystal clear water that stand out among those beaches and resort in the island. You can truly enjoy the entire vicinity of the place. It is another spot to those who loved beaches like me.

What I love about Samal?., is that the island has always the best white sand beaches and a crystal clear blue water, that somehow you can’t even tell if that is a deeper or not. The scenic views and shoreline are really perfect come with a very quiet wave. The island is dotted with so many scenic spots, breathtaking views and for any water activities. Samal is just a minute away in Davao City proper and 24/7 barge transfer from Davao – Samal and vise versa.

This is a must try resort. I can assure you that you will surely be amazed.

The Magnificent Beauty of “Glan, Sarangani”

Tisoy Traveler

Goes to…

                          Gumasa White Beach

Glan is located on the west by Sarangani Bay, on the north by Davao Occidental, and on the south by the Celebes Sea. At the southernmost tip of the Philippines, Glan boasts of pristine shorelines dotted with strips of the powdery white-sand beach of Gumasa facing the Celebes Sea which hands down, is among the Philippines’ best beaches. Among the earliest Christian towns in Mindanao, Glan has heaps to offer both for tourists and investors. Colonial-era structures make Glan even more alluring to visitors.

Glan is a leading producer of copra in the region and has survived the ups and downs of the coconut industry. Every October, Glan showcases the “Lubi-Lubi Festival”. There is more to the costumes, choreography, and musicality in this yearly competition. The colors and faces of Lubi-Lubi Festival every October reflect Glan’s industry and tradition altogether. While Gumasa celebrates a long day of beach party which is very known to the neighboring provinces and cities, “the Sarangani Bay Festival” also known to the locals as SarBay Fest, an annual event in the province. The festival is held on every month of May.

How to get there:

  1. From Manila, there are daily flights directly to Davao and General Santos City, which are entry points to Gumasa.

Note: From Davao Airport

  1. Coming from the airport, ride a taxi and tell the driver that you’re going to Ecoland Bus Terminal.
  2. From there, you can ride a bus bound directly to General Santos City. It takes you 3-4 hours of going there. Fare most likely around Php250. Just tell the conductor to drop you down at Gaisano Mall and from there you can walk to KCC Mall.

Note: From Gensan Airport

  1. From the airport, just ride a tricycle or taxi where Gensan often has. Tell the driver that you’re going to KCC Mall.
  2. The terminal going to Gumasa is right beside at the mall. You can take a van bound to Glan for Php100 and it takes you for more than an hour. Drop down station is Alegado Terminal at Glan.
  3. From the terminal, tricycles are everywhere you can rent them for Php100 going to Gumasa. Takes you there for about 20 mins.

Note: Make sure to book the tricycle for your return trip soon to Glan. Transportation is a bit lacking in these part of Sarangani.

Note: always ask the locals.

Accommodation:

Better to bring your tent with you because accommodation there cost you a lot. You have a choice of Coco Beach Resort, Rosal Beach Resort, White Haven Resort, Davak Beach and Isla Jardin Gumasa most likely range starts at Php1500-Php2500 per overnight stay. Even their cottages are little bit pricey range starts at Php450-Php1200 and of course food also there and bit costly. Just take note that you cannot order a food from them if you’re not a guest in them, what I mean is Gumasa is a public wide beach so you can stay anywhere you want as long as it has a shoreline to stand your tents, and mats or whatever you are bringing with. But if you are really wanted a cottage or room for you, I’ll suggest Coco Beach Resort. Entrance fee is Php50, cottages there are good enough for your things just bring your tents with you so that you will not cost a lot there.

  1. Dahican

  3. Sleeping Dinosaur

Mati is the only city in, and the capital of the Province of Davao Oriental, Philippines, it is located in the south-eastern part of Mindanao. Mati knows as Coconut Capital of the Philippines.

Mati celebrates two annual festivals: the Pujada bay festival every month of June, to promote and protect the Pujada Bay and the Sambuokan Festival every month of October, to unite Martinians. In years, both festivals have become an alternative tourist destination.

The province is the home of beautiful beaches in the Philippines that waits for you to explore, pristine white sand and crystal blue waters of Dahican, which is very famous when you heard the place. Undeniably Mati is a great spot of natural wonders.

So what are you waiting for? it’s been waiting for you.

How to get there:

  1. From Manila and Cebu, there are daily flights directly to Davao City, which is an entry point to Mati.
  2. Coming from Davao International Airport, if you don’t know the place yet ride a taxi and tell the driver that you’re going to Ecoland Bus Terminal.
  3. In there, you can ride a bus directly going to Mati City. Travel time takes you 3-4 hours and fare of Php250 and plus, I don’t know exactly how much but I guess cost is most likely in that range.
  4. Or you can ride a van offers direct way too. Vans are located in Ecoland Terminal, Malls like; G-Mall, SM Mall, NCCC Mall and even Victoria Plaza. Vans are the easiest and fastest way to get there.
  5. When you reach there, tricycle or motorcycle are everywhere, you can rent them where to/from. People, there are very accommodating. (Ask always the locals) if you don’t know yet the place.

In my case, I travel there with a group so we decided to rent a van in order to make use of our time. We rented the van for 2 days of Php2500 including the gas.

Note: Some tourist spots are along the way and to experience those you have to make a stop and take a picture in it or else you can see that attraction only at the window of the bus/van where you at.

Accommodation:

For a group of people, I highly suggest the Cinco Masao Beach Resort, a resort where we stay in for a night too. The resort is very affordable when it comes to rooms and cottages rates. Cottages are like villas that stands near and above sea waters where views are absolutely amazing and the calm waters that surround you feel you good and relax. Rates start at Php400-Php600 per overnight stay. If you forgot to bring your foods, the resort offers delicious foods too that are reasonable in your pocket.

Talikud Island is an island located in the southern part of the Island Garden City of Samal. It is named as “Talikud” because of its location where found at the back of Samal. The island is another getaway destination in Samal, which is really amazing with its beautiful white sand beaches and crystal blue waters, that’s why this is the place where people wanted to visit during summer days. Both sides of the island have something great to offer and it is the perfect place for divers and swimmers.

While Isla Reta is perfect beach resort to chill and relax. Both resorts are really beautiful when it comes to white sand beach and crystal clear waters. Embracing “Province of Cebu”

Tisoy Traveler Part I

Goes to…

                               Queen City of The South

Cebu is a province of the Philippines, in the country’s Central Visayas region, comprising Cebu Island and 150-plus smaller surrounding islands and islets. Its prosperous port capital, Cebu City, retains landmarks from its 16th-century Spanish colonial past, including the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño church and triangular Fort San Pedro. It’s also a gateway to the region’s renowned dive sites, beaches, coral atolls, islands and rich fishing grounds surround Cebu.

Cebu is located to the east of Negros, to the west of Leyte and Bohol islands. The province consists of Cebu Island, as well as 167 smaller islands, which include Mactan, Bantayan, Malapascua, Olango and the Camotes Island.

Cebu has become the country’s favorite tourist destination. In contrast to the bustling metropolis, the rest of Cebu ’s 167 islets and islands are lined with idyllic white sandy beaches and pristine clear waters. Cebu has gained wide popularity for fantastic diving grounds evidenced by the proliferation of resorts which offer luxurious accommodations, excellent dive facilities and the services of competent dive masters and dive guides. Cebu ’s strategic location makes it ideal for those who wish to travel to the other islands and provinces by plane, boat or bus. No place could be too far from Cebu.

How to get there:

  1. From Manila and Davao, there are daily flights directly to Cebu City. I guess some of the neighboring countries has its direct flights too because Cebu Airport is an International Airport.
  1. From neighboring provinces like Negros, Leyte, Cagayan, Misamis and etc., you can travel by boat and bus or plane if your location has its own Airport.
  1. From the airport, you can ride a taxi or bus going to the city proper, but I’ll do suggest that you’ll take a bus right in front of the airport coz its the cheaper one cost only Php25 route going to SM City Cebu.
  1. From there, public vehicles are everywhere or you can ask the locals.

Accommodation:

Hotels, Inns, Dormitories, Pension Houses, Economy or even budget accommodations are available in the city and don’t worry about that because Cebu is lots of accommodations in cheaper prices of course foods there too are cheaper. If you reach the city proper in Osmena St. and Maxilom Avenue all accommodations are just within walking distance and so you can choose the best but affordable.

Things to do:

Actually, there are a lot of things to do in Cebu but it will depend on you what’s on your mind of interest, some of them are in the city but if you want to experience the real beauty it is located outside the city right after this chapter, here are some;

  1. Sinulog Festival in the month of January (cultural and religious celebration).
  2. Visiting churches, museum, and ruins like Basilica del Santo Nino, Cathedral Museum of Cebu, Magellan’s Cross, Fort of San Pedro and a lot more.
  3. Scuba diving and snorkeling in Mactan.
  4. IT Park (skywalk).
  5. Nightlife in Maxilom Avenue.
  6. Trek to Sanchez’s Peak
  7. Malls are a lot in there.
  8. Lechon Cebu (pride of Cebu), and a lot of good food.

Travel Notes:

  1. Search the area first before going there. (safety and security, availability of transportation, accommodation, foods and etc.)
  6. If you’re a solo traveler, you own your time so better to have a map or guidelines and extra money of course.

(Solo or Group has its own advantages and disadvantages when it comes to travel.)

     7. Take note of the travel time and how long you will be staying in that particular area.

     8. You have to consider the events (summer, the influx of tourist and the most important is the weather).

     9. Lastly, preparation (when, where and what to do) so that everything will be okay.

I’m hoping that the above information and details help you guys as your travel note.

Enjoy and have a safe trip.

Embracing “Southern Cebu”

Tisoy Traveler Part II

Goes to…

                                Oslob and Badian

Part I..  TravelGuide #1

Oslob is very popular when it comes to the tourism industry, becomes instant when those gigantic migratory whale sharks or “butanding” that are in there and put the town in the spotlight. According to the locals even before this kind of creatures came to the shore of southern Cebu, Oslob is one of the best experience if you’re going to Cebu and I don’t think so that this will left out in your itinerary. There are a lot of things to do in Oslob and when I’m there I just checked out some of the Spanish-era structure, majestic falls, beautiful beaches and encounter the whale sharks.

Just 120 kilometers southeast of Cebu City and about 3 hours bus ride, all of those are located in the heart of the municipality and from there all those attraction are so easy to get by renting a motorcycle or “habal-habal”.

Badian is the home of the most popular falls the Kawasan Falls a getaway destination in the southern part of Cebu to locals and foreigners alike.

Just 130 kilometers southwest of Cebu City and about 3 hours bus ride to, the Kawasan Falls is located in the mountains of Barangay Matutinao, Badian. But if you are in Oslob already it takes you only an hour to reach Badian by bus too.

How to get there:

  1. From the airport, you can ride a bus going to the city proper which I do in part I of this travel and it takes 30 mins to get there, the bus fare is only Php25.

  2. From the city proper if you don’t know yet you can ride by taxi just tell the driver that you’re going to South Bus Terminal.

  3. In there just take a route going to Oslob or Bato and tell the conductor to drop you at Brgy. Tan-awan in Oslob where whale shark watching is located and don’t worry its just along the highway and you can see it if you already there and it takes almost 3 hours and fare of Php125.

The whale shark watching cost Php500 including boat, vest, mask or snorkel. And if you don’t have an underwater camera with you, you could rent also for Php500 including the copy of those pictures.

  1. Right thereafter which is closest to the area is the Tumalog Falls is just along the highway, you can rent a habal-habal going up and walked all the way from the falls and back and it takes an hour I guess.

Sometimes price depends on how good you are in terms of negotiating or your haggling abilities.

  1. Getting to Oslob town proper where the cuartel, church, baluarte and their beautiful beach park located, it’s a minutes distance by jeepney.

  2. From there you can take a bus bound to Bato or Santander and drop down there at the terminal, the fare is Php50 and ride another bus going to Moalboal, Badian or Cebu City going west, better ask the locals if you don’t know the place or else you’ll be going back where you started first.

Note. Oslob is eastern side while Badian is a western part.

  1. When reaching there at Brgy. Matutinao in Badian, locals will swarm around you offering their guiding services like the most well-known in the area the Kawasan Canyoneering which I’ve wanted to experience.

Canyoneering will cost you a lot, but what I’ve told you just do the best to cut and cut the price. Were just paying Php800/head for the entire exploration including our meal after.

Guess what!. did you know that I’m doing all of that for just 1-day tour, just to make sure that you can catch up the early trip at South Bus Terminal by 4:30AM to bypass the traffic of course and things to do first is the whale shark watching since it last only until lunchtime.

Accommodation:

If you’re following the itinerary I made you can get back to Cebu City by night, if not you can stay in Moalboal for a night which is the nearest one and the place has a lot to offer in terms of accommodation and food, of course, the place was known to the public because of their white beach. Inns in there are quite expensive, the price starts at Php1000 and above per night. Better ask the locals as I said always it really helps a lot.

Things to do:

  1. Whale shark watching and of course swimming with them.

  2. Scuba diving and snorkeling in Sumilon Island.

  3. Embracing the breath-taking cascade of crystal waters of Tumalog Falls.

  4. Visiting the ruins of Baluarte, Cuartel and the old church in town.

  5. Sit down and relax the white beach view park.

  6. Riding a bus where you can see the neighboring provinces of Negros Oriental, Dumaguete and of course Siquijor Island.

  7. The adventure of Kawasan Canyoning.

  8. And the simple, very serene and relaxing sound of nature.

Travel Notes:

  1. Search the area first before going there. (safety and security, availability of transportation, accommodation, foods and etc.)
  6. If you’re a solo traveler, you own your time so better to have a map or guidelines and extra money of course.

Embracing “Northern Cebu”

Tisoy Traveler Part III

Goes to…

                     Camotes Island

Part I..  TravelGuide #1

Part II.. TravelGuide #2

Camotes Island is situated in Central Visayas, in the Philippines. It is a part of the province of Cebu. It is located east of Cebu and west of Leyte. Camotes Island is made up of three main sub-islands and divided into four municipalities. These four capital towns are Pilar, Poro, San Francisco and Tudela. It is a small piece of paradise.. of the majestic beauty of white sand beaches, treasures beneath the sea water, amazing caves, and lake. Camotes Island’s photography is hilly. Its climate is characterized by distinct dry season. The island has a total size of 20,964 hectares.
Camotes as a whole enjoys tropical weather the whole year round. They only have 2 seasons. The dry and the rainy season. The dry season is from March to June while the rainy season is from July to February. People, there are very accommodating and lovely and the island is very rich when it comes to culture and history.

Try to get out the usual Cebu. Explore, experience and embrace the beauty of Camotes Island., it’s been waiting for you.

How to get there:

  1. From Mactan airport, there’s a bus right in front going to city proper, the fare is about Php25 and it takes you 30 mins ride to reach SM City Cebu where is their drop down point.
  2. From SM City Cebu, catch a jeepney or bus going or passing in Danao right beside the Mall or better ask the locals if in case you are lost. It takes you an hour travel time going there and the fare is Php30.
  3. Tell the driver to drop down you at Danao Port if you get a bus. For jeepney your drop down station is their Market which also closest to Danao Port, right there you have to ride a bicycle, the fare is Php10 only.
  4. You can see the island if you’re in Danao Port already. Getting there takes you 2 hours by ferry boat and fare of Php180.

Note: There are several ports around the islands.

Poro is the main port, where the ferry from Cebu arrives.

Consuelo, for the service to/from Danao. ( town of San Francisco)

         Pilar, for Ormoc and Leyte.

Just in case, make sure to ride the ferry boat going to Consuelo and back.

5. In the port, there are multicabs and motorbikes (habal-habal) that offer transfer to/from.

Accommodation:

The island has a lot of accommodation, most of them are located in Santiago Bay in Brgy. Santiago, San Francisco, where most tourists stay. They offer cheap room price for as low as Php800 a night. Santiago is the best location to stay in because aside from reasonable room rates, the place is great when it comes to good food but good price. The beach has a wide range of pristine white sand shoreline and you can see and experience the beauty of sunset in there.

If you’re a solo traveler like I do most of my travels. Suggest finding a way that will not compromise your pocket that can carry you all throughout. Php800 a night accommodation, that cost a lot for me. Make the use of your phone and access to the internet there’s a lot in there who offers services that help you. My Camotes Island tour was great, you know why? I spent Php1000 for my accommodation including the motorbike rent and gas in it because the best way to explore the entire island is to rent with you a motorbike. And the accommodation they have was good can cater not only for one or two but of course for a group of 5 people. I can give you details in it but I forgot the name of the girl who I have a contact in there +639083166414, I saved her number by the name of the island Camotes. Just in case you can’t contact her, the location of their house is right beside or in front of Mangodlong Rock Beach Resort, the house with a mini store, refilling gas bottle and you can see the motorbike is there. The family is very accommodating and lovely, they will tell you where to go for a good meal and what to do best on the island and no limit use of their bikes. Including of that payment is a free transfer to/from the port. The family has a good and kind heart. Thanks to them.

Things to do:

  1. Diving and Snorkeling (operator- Ocean Deep Dive in Mangodlong)
  2. Beach Sports: volleyball and etc.
  3. Island Tour: Lake Danao, Baywalk, Paraiso Cave, Busay Falls and a lot more.
  4. Sunset view in Santiago Bay
  5. Beach walk in Santiago Bay
  6. Boating and Swimming
  7. Mangrove Forest Park
  8. Cliff jumping in Buho Rock Resort
  9. Exploring the caves: Paraiso, Timubo and Crystal Cave
  10. Kayaking in Lake Danao

Note: all entrance fee is most likely Php5-Php20 and some are no entrance fee, so no worry at all.

Travel Notes:

  1. Search the area first before going there. (safety and security, availability of transportation, accommodation, foods and etc.)
  2. Create your itinerary for the sequence of your travel. (where first, stop for your meal, activities in the area, time you’ll be spending in that area, the most important is where to stay and etc.)
  6. If you’re a solo traveler, you own your time so better to have a map or guidelines and extra money of course.

8. You have to consider the events (summer, the influx of tourist and the most important is the weather).

Kapatagan is the home of numbers of flora and fauna species and also the King of Philippines Skies, the Philippines Eagle. It is pretty close to Mt. Apo, the Philippines highest mountain peak makes for the climbers best spots to trek.

For those who want to go in there and love the outdoor adventures, there are many popular destinations in the area and a lot of things to do (posted below). Accommodation:

The best place to stay in kapatagan is the Mt. Apo Highland Resort, it is a hillside resort. There we stay for a night. I don’t know exactly how much did we pay, but I guess it will not cost you a lot because they offer a very reasonable price for foods and services. All hillside rooms are villas type right beside of the breathtaking view of Mt. Apo and the small Lake Mirror which filled a lot of beautiful lotus flower.

The place can cater a group of people. If you bring your tent with you there is a camping space for that and even tent for rent. The place is very green, fresh and cool climate, like when you wake up in the morning you can hear the sound of the birds and nature itself. There you can do a lot of things: swimming in the natural pool, boating in the lake and fishing.

Discovering “Island of Camiguin”

Tisoy Traveler

Goes to…

                “The Land Born in Fire”

Camiguin is an island province in the Philippines located in the Bohol Sea, about 10 kilometers off the northern coast of Mindanao. It is politically part of the Northern Mindanao Region of the country and formerly a part of Misamis Oriental province. For more than 7,000 islands in the Philippines, it’s hard for one to stand out but this island absolutely does. Camiguin is the second-smallest province in the country both in population and land area after Batanes. The provincial capital is Mambajao, which is also the province’s largest municipality both in area and population.

The province consists primarily of Camiguin Island, as well as a few other surrounding minor islets including White Island, about 5 kilometers west of the town of Mambajao. Mantigue Island, about 14 kilometers south of Mambajao. The island is a volcanic island, with seven volcanoes, that’s why people called the island as the Land of Seven Volcanoes, sometimes I heard it as A Land Born in fire. Vegetation and natural springs make the island’s climate cool and mild. Usually, dry season starts in the month of April and lasts for three months and November to January are the coldest months.

Tourist Spot:

White Island, a sandbar that is well-known in the island because of its beauty, and Mantigue Island, a smaller island off the shores of Camiguin, are great for swimming, snorkeling, and diving.

Katibawasan Falls and Tuawasan Falls, Cool, refreshing waters amid trees, ferns, and boulders can be found at these two majestic waterfalls.

Santo Niño Cold Spring. It offers waters at 20 degrees Celsius and small fishes that will give you a unique message, and it’s a refreshing one because of its natural coldest water.

Ardent Hot Spring is in contrast, 40 degrees Celsius waters heated by Mt. Hibok-Hibok, an active volcano. The idea is like your in jacuzzi because of the warm waters that flourish in your body.

Walkway to the Old Volcano and Stations of the Cross is a walkway leading to the peak of Mt. Vulcan and with 14 stations of the cross and along the way you will see the amazing view of the town and the beautiful color of the ocean surrounding the island.

Sunken Cemetery, is a landmark of the Catarman town, the cemetery that sank during the first volcanic eruption I guess, is a popular spot for tourists to enjoy the dramatic view especially sunset.

Hikers and mountaineers will enjoy the area because it’s an adventure island. The steps to volcanoes are a trekker’s challenge. There are forests and dive sites for exploring too. This island is a nature lover’s theme park because of so many things to do.

Apart from that natural beauty, side strips are a lot in there like the stories of the island about volcanic eruptions, old churches, ruins of past and ancestral homes from those past periods and a lot of Camiguin’s history.

How to get there:

  1. From Manila, there are daily flights either to Butuan City and Cagayan de Oro City, which is the nearest to the island. Surigao City, and Davao City which are entry points to Camiguin Island.
  2. Ferries and fast crafts travel from Cagayan de Oro, Bohol, and other provinces especially Balingoan Port daily.
  3. Butuan City. You have to take a bus going to Cagayan de Oro City and tell the driver to drop you at Balingoan which is along the highway and part of Misamis Oriental where Camiguin Island belong too. I don’t know exactly the fare but I guess not more than Php150 coz it takes only an hour going there.
  4. Cagayan de Oro City. Coming from there you will take a bus going to Butuan City, tell the driver to drop you at Balingoan Misamis Oriental right next to Cagayan. About the fare still, I don’t know exactly how much coz I’m coming from Davao City, I guess not more than Php100 because Balingoan is near in Cagayan City like it takes only minutes of going to the port.
  5. Davao City. From there you have to take a bus going Cagayan City or else Butuan City and then follow those steps above because those cities most closest to the port since no bus directly going there. Going those cities consume you a lot of time like 8-9hrs of travel and fare about Php400 above.
  6. Suggestion. like ours, we decide to rent a van co’z we travel by group, the advantage is you can control your time of travel and the places you’ve wanted to see along the way and stop for a few minutes.
  7. When reaching Balingoan, actually the port is right in front of you. The fare is about Php120 per head I forget how much exactly but almost like that, takes about 45min-1hr by ferries.

Accommodation:

There are a lot of places that you can stay in Camiguin offering from economy rates to luxury. Resorts and inns are mostly located in Mambajao, the capital of Camiguin and are a jump-off point to many of its tourist attractions. If you are in a group like we did and would like to save up in accommodation, Pabua’s Cottages is a great resort. It is located in Yumbing, Mambajao and offers as low as Php800 for 2 persons and rooms for a maximum of 6-10 persons start at Php1,800. Actually, there’s a lot of resort in there so it depends on your choice to where to stay but I do suggest that because aside from the cheapest one the accommodation and food was great. The resort is fronting the beach and just a walking distance from the port going to White Island.

Activities:

  1. Lanzones Festival (month of October)
  2. Hiking (best on the island)
  3. Scuba Diving, Swimming, and Snorkeling
  4. Fishing and Boating
  5. Touring around (spots above)

Travel Notes:

  • Search the area first before going there. (safety and security, availability of transportation, accommodation, foods and etc.)
  • Create your itinerary for the sequence of your travel. (like where first, stop for your meal, activities in the area, the time you’ll be spending in that area, the most important is where to sleep and etc.)
  • Budget or Money. (the cost or expenses of your travel.)
  • What to bring. (like camera, phone, power bank, charger, necessities or travel kit, your medicine, the tent just in case, and many more importance to bring.
  • If you travel with group better to seek a rented van or what depends on you so that you can go with your itinerary directly and less budget of course.
  • If you’re a solo traveler, you own your time so better to have a map or guidelines and extra money of course.(Solo or Group has its own advantages and disadvantages when it comes to travel.)
  • Take note of the travel time and how long you will be staying in that particular area.
  • You have to consider the events (like summer, peak season) and the most important is the weather.
  • Lastly, preparation (like when, where and what to do) so that everything will be okay.

Touring around the island was one of the best places I’ve ever been because aside from the stories about the island, I can’t deny the fact that the island is really majestic and full of beautiful wonders. Concluding what I say; seeing is believing..

I’m hoping that this blog helps you guys details to details if you’re planning to go Camiguin Island soon, and provides all the information you’ve wanted to know about the island like how to reach there, accommodation, tourist spots and etc.

General Islands, Surigao Exploration

Tisoy Traveler Part IV

Goes to…

  1. Huyamao Island
  2. Casarica Island
  3. Libtong’s Blue Lagoon

Part I..   Travel Guide to Surigao no. 1

Part II.. Travel Guide to Surigao no. 2

Part III..Travel Guide to Surigao no. 3

Exotic and Beautiful, that’s how they describe the Islands of Surigao del Sur. The province is home to too many extraordinary beauty of those natural resources. Like the other best destinations in the country is an exciting getaway for those weary traveler, it is eye-catching as it showcases fine white sand, clear sea water, and a breathtaking view from the shore.

Huyamao Island. This majestic island covered with very fine white sand. You should notice the white sand along the mountain island that is compatible with the other sandbars we have in the country. Its water is so pristine, you can even clearly see the seabed while riding a “banca”.

Casarica Island. The island is lined with pristine white beach with crystal clear waters which are only a 10-minute away from Consuelo Port. It is well-known to the locals because the island is open to the public and free.

Libtong’s Blue Lagoon. The secret paradise is situated in General Island next to those islands above, a deep-blue water covered with different rock formation, cliffs and green trees. Like Palawan majestic lagoons there have it too.

How to get there:

  1. If you read the whole part of my Exploring Surigao del Sur I mean from I to III the itinerary and the sequence of travels are there from starts to when you get here, anyways links are above.
  2.  From City of Tandag we decided to rent a motorcycle or “habal-habal” for the whole travel because the idea was to stop in those places we knew we cant when we ride a van, like the overview in Cortes, the skim-boarding in Lanuza beach, the waterfalls meters away from the highway in Carmen and a lot of natural views. We pay Php500 for that entire travel almost 6hrs because of those stops we made and right ahead is direct to Municipality of Cantilan, where our last stop, of course, the boundary of South and North Surigao.
  3. If you ride a bus or van there’s a lot too, just go to their terminal and fare is about Php8 per head by tricycle. Vans are direct to Municipality of Cantilan and fare per head is Php100. If the bus you have to take a route going to Surigao City and tell the driver or conductor that you will drop in Cantilan, actually all the bus passes in there.
  4. If you reach the said Municipality, ride a tricycle and tell the driver that you have to drop in Brgy. Consuelo where those Islands specifically situated and the fare is Php30 per head.

Accommodation:

We got there late because of those stops and tired already, so we decided to stay there for a night and have this Island Hopping by the next day. Since the place is nearby the sea, resorts and accommodations are available in the area but I do suggest to look for “Mahayahay Beach Resort” the resort is just a simple one so don’t expect for the better one, like two simple houses but the rooms are fully airconditioned, two cottages outside and there is karaoke bar for you to sing-a-long. The resort is good for group or “barkada”‘. And the owner of that beach is Mrs. Lolita Luga and her contact no. is +639493373442, she is very accommodating, will treat you the best she can do because she wants you guys satisfied during your stay, feeling at your own home and she knew where to rent a boat or “banca” to use for a cheaper price. For that, we pay Php2000 only including accommodation and food, and island hopping to those islands above, it will not cost you a lot if you will be at the same resort as we did.

Activities:

  1. Island Hopping
  2. Swimming
  3. Kayaking
  4. Scuba Diving
  5. Fishing
  6. And other water activities.

Travel Notes:

  1. Search the area first before going there. (safety and security, availability of transportation, accommodation, foods and etc.)
  2. Create your itinerary for the sequence of your travel. (where first, stop for your meal, activities in the area, the time you’ll be spending in that area, the most important is where to sleep and etc.)
  3. Budget or Money. (the cost or expenses of your travel.)
  4. What to bring. (camera, phone, power bank, charger, necessities or travel kit, your medicine, the tent just in case, and much more important to bring.
  5. If you travel with group better to seek a rented van or what depends on you so that you can go with your itinerary directly and less budget of course.
  6. If you’re a solo traveler, you own your time so better to have a map or guidelines and extra money of course.
(Solo or Group has its own advantages and disadvantages when it comes to travel.)
  7. Take note of the travel time and how long you will be staying in that particular area.
  8. You have to consider the events (summer, the influx of tourist, crowd) and the most important is the weather.
  9. Lastly, preparation (when, where and what to do) so that everything will be okay.

These were the amazing part for me because those islands above are extremely extraordinary beautiful as it is. You will appreciate the white sand beach under the heat of the sun also the deep-blue lagoon, how the sun affects the color of the water like there is a crystal on it, even how deep it was you will see yourself like having a mirror in front. How lucky you are if you reach those mesmerizing island like you’ve never seen before, and embracing that beauty is one of the most wonderful experience you’ll have in your entire life.

Hoping that the above information will help you reach and experience that destination.

Boracay of Caraga & Green Falls, Surigao Exploration

Tisoy Traveler Part III

Goes to…

  1. White Sand Beach “Boracay of Caraga”
  2. Green Falls

Part I..   Travel Guide to Surigao no. 1

Part II.. Travel Guide to Surigao no. 2

In this part, I will show you one of the best of Caraga Region aside from their main tourist attraction. Cagwait White Sand Beach well-known as “Boracay of Caraga” because of the extraordinary white sand beach, huge shoreline and wide-blue water like Boracay has. The beach is located in the Municipality of Cagwait right next to San Agustin Municipality. Most of the people don’t know these places because when they went or heard Surigao they only knew about Tinuy-an Falls, Enchanted River, and Britania Islands, which they are wrong because there’s a lot of extraordinary places in the Province of Surigao.

Green Falls is situated in the Municipality of Tago specifically in San Miguel. Tago, is a second-class municipality in the central part of Surigao del Sur, has many waterfalls. The falls are not well known to the other near cities or provinces that’s why few people are going in there. Green Falls also known as “Cagpangi Falls”  is composed of seven falls, with the main being a ledge. The other six are mostly horsetails that come in multiple variations and the water was so cold, very natural and majestic falls.

“Tandag City” the Boulevard

How to get there:

  1. If you read my Part I and Part II the links are above, the sequence of travels are there., I mean the itinerary.
  2. From Municipality of Barobo or Municipality of San Agustin, you have to ride a public bus, van or even motorcycle known as “habal-habal” which is the easiest way for almost 2 and half an hours. Barobo fare is about Php100+ per head above that’s by bus or van because you will pass three Municipality to reach the place.
  3. From San Agustin, we pay Php100 per head by motorcycle directed to Cagwait White Sand Beach because that the easiest way of transportation there. When reaching the place we stayed there for almost 3-4hrs and have our lunch there too, then move up to our next destination.
  4. Coming from the Municipality of Cagwait we ride a motorcycle “habal-habal” again and it takes about more than an hour by that, the fare of Php125 per head and that’s direct to where the falls located. We stayed in the area for almost 3hrs to relax and chill to their cold waterfalls and having our snacks merienda too.
  5. From the falls it’s a walking distance to get into the highway where there’s a lot of public transportation “jeep or tricycle” who passes by going to the City of Tandag the capital of Surigao del Sur Province, it takes about 45min to reach in the city.

Accommodation:

We got in the city late afternoon so we decided to stay overnight there, actually, there’s a lot of accommodation in the city range from Php600-Php1200 not bad. In the evening foods are not a problem anymore it’s within the city but I do suggest to go near the Boulevard, there’s a lot of grilled items or even deep-fry items for you to enjoy too. Foods there are at a cheaper price and there is a bar within the Boulevard for you to chill a bit.

Activities:

Cagwait White Sand Beach. Php20 at your environmental fee. The beach is open to the public and there’s a lot of cottages out there for you to stay and its free. It has a wide shoreline for you to do some of your favorite games that acquired a lot of space like volleyball, frisbee and etc., or even walking to see and experience how really beautiful the beach is. You can do kayaking or other water sports you know there too if you have that equipment in you.

Green Falls. Php50 entrance fee. Cottages ranges from Php200-Php500 depends upon the style and there are some for free. The area is designed for relaxation. If lucky, a tourist may touch a dazzling rainbow forming in the spray at the bottom of the falls. Or he may send his adrenaline to orbit by clambering up then crawling to the edge of the precipitous overhang and looking down at the roaring curtain. And if you want to stay for a night, there are accommodations, great food, and mini bar.

Travel Notes:

  1. Search the area first before going there. (safety and security, availability of transportation, accommodation, foods and etc.)
  2. Map and Guidelines.
  3. Create your itinerary for the sequence of your travel. (where first, stop for your meal, activities in the area, the time you’ll be spending in that area, the most important is where to sleep and etc.)
  4. Budget or Money. (the cost or expenses of your travel.)
  5. What to bring. (camera, phone, power bank, charger, necessities or travel kit, your medicine, the tent just in case, and many more importance to bring.
  6. Take note of the travel time and how long you will be staying in that particular area.
  7. Preparation (when, where and what to do) so that everything will be okay.
  8. You have to consider the events (summer, the influx of tourist and the most important is the weather).

I loved these part because in the first place I am so excited and really interested to see and experience the “Boracay of Caraga” and it was really “Whoa., WOW! what an extraordinary place it was, like one of the best destinations in the Province.

Hope that the above information helps you guys for real.

Cabgan Island, Surigao Exploration

Tisoy Traveler Part II

Goes to…

                 Cabgan Island

Part I..   Travel Guide to Surigao no. 1

And when I went back to the place for the 2nd time around my main target was not just their main tourist attraction but to explore the entire province of Surigao del Sur, because I found out that they have more. Did you know that they have the best beaches and islands too and one of those is “Cabgan Island” found in Municipality of Barobo right next Tagbina and Hinatuan?

The island is never been discovered by the public like it was so virgin and untouchable even people of Barobo but it really safe. There are two families who lived there according to people of Barobo but I never encountered them maybe in middle part, the island is just a small one that you can walk around for more than an hour, full of tress and there’s a cliff right behind, no accommodation, no electricity, water to drink, even comfort room and if you’re planning to go there just bring your own food, because the feeling when you reach there like you’re feeling lost or “Survivor philippines” if you knew that, but I like idea. The island is extremely beautiful, white shoreline and of course crystal blue water. Right beside the island is an island too named “Turtle Island” it is because of the shape like a turtle.

How to get there:

  1. If you read my Exploring Surigao del Sur Part I in the above link, actually the sequence of itinerary is there.
  2. Coming from Hinatuan you have to ride a bus or motorcycle “habal-habal” to reach Barobo in North part for about an hour. Bus fare around Php50/head but you have to wait and motorcycle fare around Php100/head which is the easiest way.
  3. When you reach Barobo tell the driver to drop you at the old public market nearby the sea.
  4. Boatmen “bangkero” are available in the area but most of them are taking advantage of you, so I do suggest Kuya Jojo +639488573810 if he’s not around there’s another one Kuya Danny +639488656460 you can contact them thru that number, they will not take advantage on you and they have a good heart like we pay Php1000 back and forth.
  5. Going in the island it takes about 25min-35min to reach there. You can see the island already.
  6. We stay there for a night and we bring our tents there.

Accommodation:

You will never be spending money there. Since the island has no accommodation yet all you have to do is bring with your tents and your food during your stay.

Activities:

  1. You can do camping on the island.
  2. Swimming in the crystal-blue water.
  3. Bonfire at night.
  4. You can do your games there since the island has a huge shoreline.
  5. Walking the entire island if you wanted to.
  6. and etc.

(camera, phone, power bank, charger, necessities or travel kit, your medicine, the tent just in case, and much more important to bring.
  6. Take note of the travel time and how long you will be staying in that particular area.
  7. Preparation (when, where and what to do) so that everything will be okay.
  8. You have to consider the events (summer, the influx of tourist and the most important is the weather).

That was part of my itinerary because I am very curious about the island of how beautiful it is as I heard it. And I’m not disappointed because the island is really amazing and that’s the first time in my life to go a virgin island like that who has nothing and I like the idea.

Hope that these details help you guys like me who loves travel and tour.

Exploring Surigao del Sur, Philippines

Tisoy Traveler Part I

Goes to…

  1. Tinuy-an Falls
  2. Enchanted River
  3. Britania Group of Islands

Surigao del Sur is a province in the Philippines located in the Caraga region in Mindanao. Its capital is Tandag City. Surigao del Sur is situated on the eastern coast of Mindanao and faces the Philippine Sea to the east.

The main tourist attraction is the Tinuy-an Falls, known as the little “Niagara Falls of Caraga”. It is also known as the widest waterfall in the Philippines. “Deep-blue water” of the Enchanted River is found in Barangay Talisay, Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. It is called “enchanted” because no one has ever reached its bottom, and that according to them., and Britania Islands a “group of beautiful, untouched and breathtaking islands” in Surigao del Sur in the municipality of San Agustin.
Surfing in Surigao del Sur is widely known and has been one of the local tourist attractions. This extreme sport is often practiced in Cantilan and Lanuza the “Skimboarding”.

Hiyor-Hiyoran Island

How to get there:

  1. From Manila, there are daily flights either to Butuan City, Surigao City, and Davao City which are entry points to Surigao del Sur.
  2. If you’re coming from “Davao International Airport”, to reach those places you can ride a “taxi” which the easiest way and tell the driver that you’re going to Ecoland Bus terminal for almost Php200 fare and from there you can ride a bus or van going to Mangagoy in Bislig, Airconed Buss Php300+ and Non-Aircon Bus for about Php265 but mostly the bus going there are non-air so you don’t have any choice and the travel time going there are about 6hrs.
  3. Or you can ride a public jeepney in the highway in front of the Airport just take a route going to Roxas for Php13 fare and from there you can ride a jeepney going to Ecoland Terminal, the route is Ecoland of course for php8 fare and tells the driver you have to drop off at the terminal. Or else you can ride a bus outside at the Airport right across the street with a sign “Davao” and those buses are likely going to Ecoland Bus Terminal.
  4. When you reach Mangagoy, right at the terminal there’s a lot of motorcycle or “habal-habal” in the local term, they probably ask you about your itinerary. Actually, they already know where you go and then start negotiating you but I do suggest the motorcycle who has an ID because they are the one who is following the local guidelines, about the price per head or group and they do have discounts too, and they are actually the local tourist guide from the area.
  5. From the center it takes about 45min-1hr to reach Tinuy-an Falls the little “Niagara Falls” by motorcycle and we stayed there for almost 2hrs and then right after we are heading to our next destination which is the”deep-blue water” of Enchanted River in Hinatuan the next Municipality after Bislig, and it takes about 2hrs of travel and its okay because the driver will stay till the contract of payment is done. After Enchanted River staying there for 2-3hrs and have our lunch there too, we tell the driver to drop us to the highway where the bus/van pass and we pay Php400 per head for the whole travel.
  6. From the highway, we ride a bus from Hinatuan to Britania where those Islets located or Britania Group of Islands for about an hour and we pay Php95 per head and stay there for a night because we reach there late afternoon.

Accommodation:

If you follow that itinerary you will be staying your night there too and you can start your Island Hopping by early morning. When you reach Brgy. Britania you have a lot of choices because there’s a lot who offers accommodations in the area range from Php700-Php1200, but in our case, we prefer to use our tents like I do most in my travels so that we can save some of our money, since the area nearby the sea.

Activities:

Tinuy-an Falls. Php50 per head entrance fee, I forgot how much exactly but I guess it is, you can do what you want there like going up where the waters come from, there’s a tour guide from the area who will assist you and or you can ride a bamboo boat i dont know whats the name of that in there like it’s a lot of bamboos were tied up and float like a boat too that can carry huge number of person where it can go to the area where the water drops and stay there for a while.
Enchanted River. Php25 per head entrance fee, you can swim all you want to their bluest clear water together with different kinds of fish, that’s it.
Britania Island. We pay Php1000 for our Island Hopping trip, actually, there’s a lot of bangkero out there who can negotiate with but this one is the cheapest we’ve seen and he is a very courteous boatman, that is kuya Andy and you can contact him thru this number +639305353703. You can go 4-5 islets that have shoreline out of more than 20 I guess of islets, namely Hiyor-Hiyoran Island, Naked Island, Buslon Island, Hagonoy Island and Twin Island.

Travel Notes:

Experience “The Holiday Town” South of Manila

Tisoy Traveler

Goes to…

                                            Tagaytay, Philippines

Tagaytay, officially the City of Tagaytay is a component city in the province of Cavite, in the Philippines. It is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations because of its outstanding scenery and cooler climate provided by its high altitude. It sits on a ridge above Taal Volcano, the smallest active volcano in the world, surrounded by Taal Lake. Overlooking the area, People’s Park in the Sky occupies the grounds of a never-finished presidential mansion. Picnic Grove is a recreation area with trails and a zip line. Tagaytay is considered to be the second Summer capital of the Philippines with the first being Baguio due to its cool climate this is a favored destination for those relatively more humid areas of the Philippines.

Tagaytay has a total land area of 66 km, which represents about 4.37% of the total area of the Province of Cavite. Overlooks Manila Bay to the North, Taal Volcano and Lake to the south and Laguna de Bay to the east. Tagaytay is relatively close to the capital city of Manila, only 59 kilometers away via Aguinaldo Highway, providing an easy escape for the locals from the heat of the huge metropolis.

“Tagaytay”, is a Tagalog word for “ridge”.

How to get there:

  1. Manila airport, is the entry point to Tagaytay.
  2. From there, ride a white taxi instead of a yellow taxi because drivers of white taxis are most honest and cheaper than yellow taxis. Just tell the driver that you are going to South West Integrated Bus Terminal routes are for Batangas and Cavite.
  3. Take a bus with “Tagaytay” sign, of course, you can ride also a “Mendez” and “Nasugbu” signed bus. Just make sure that your drop down point is Olivares Terminal in Tagaytay City. Actually, the terminal is located in the city proper so no worry at all. Fare around Php120.
  4. In there, you can ride a jeepney bound to different spots in Tagaytay. Actually it so easy to ride because they use the name of the spots as their signage.

Note: When in doubt. Always ask the locals.

Accommodation:

Tagaytay is a famous getaway, pertaining to hotels, inns and budget accommodations. Tagaytay has a lot to offer. Affordable and cheaper accommodation is usually in their city proper and when it comes to the best one it is quite more expensive, they are located actually more closest to the spots, highways and where the view of Taal Volcano can be seen. Budget hotel ranges from Php600-Php1400 and while that luxury hotel ranges from Php2500-Php8000 per overnight stay. Dining and foods are a lot in there and must try their “Nilaga” and “Bulalo” best for their cold weather. Pinoy delicacies “kakanin” and check out their famous “Pasalubong Center” just along the highway.

Actually, our accommodation was in Manila so we had a day tour only in Tagaytay.

Things to do:

  1. Sky Ranch & Sky Eye (new tourist attraction) entrance fee – Php100
  2. Picnic Grove & Eco-Adventure Trail
  3. People’s Park in the Sky

The Capital City of The Philippines

Tisoy Traveler

Goes to…

                                 Manila, Philippines

Manila is located on the eastern shore of the Manila Bay on one of the finest harbors in the country. The city is composed of 16 districts: Binondo, Ermita, Intramuros, Malate, Paco, Pandacan, Port Area, Quiapo, Sampaloc, San Andres, San Miguel, San Nicolas, Sta. Ana, Sta. Cruz, Sta. Mesa and Tondo. The city has six congressional districts for the lower house of the Philippine Congress.

Tourism is an important industry in Manila, Philippines. In 2012, the city and region welcomed 974,379 overnight visitors. As the main gateway to the Philippines’ many destinations, the city is visited by the majority of international tourists to the country registering a total of 3,139,756 arrivals in 2012. Global Blue ranked Manila eleventh in its “Best Shopping Destinations” in Asia.

How to get there:

By air

  1. The best way to reach Manila is by air. Ninoy Aquino International Airport is the country’s primary airport from anywhere you are.
  2. Upon arrival, there are buses outside heading to the downtown area. Makati City and Quezon City via EDSA. I don’t know exactly how much the fare is but there is and the most practical way of course.
  3. Or else you can ride a taxi cab. Airport taxis are colored yellow, better keep an eye on the meter at all times because yellow taxis are frequently scammers about your meters charge. I do suggest to take a white taxis outside because they are much more honest and cheaper.

By boat

  1. Ferries from/to most major cities/provinces will stop at the Manila South Harbor, the city’s main passenger seaport.

By bus

  1. In Manila, provincial bus companies have their own terminals which mostly located in EDSA in Cubao. From most major cities/provinces throughout the Philippines bus actually stop there.

Get around

  1. In Manila, buses and jeepneys routes actually displayed on the side or on the dashboard. Fares begin at Php8.00 for the first 4 kilometers.

Note: When in doubt. Always ask the locals.

Accommodation:

Manila has a lot to offer when it comes to accommodations. Most of the hotels, inns, apartelles, and dormitories are can be found/located on Roxas Boulevard right in front of Manila Bay. Some accommodations are in the district of Ermita, Malate, and Paco. There are hotels offer as cheap as Php500 per overnight stay if you wish. There are dorms also for Php99 per overnight if you want, and you can check those through the internet. Or better yet to stay with your friends, family, or someone who you knew of course to lessen your expenses. When it comes to dining or foods, actually they are everywhere side by side from restaurants, buffet, fast food, roadside stalls or “carinderias”, snack house, to street foods.

Things to do:

  1. Rizal Park Tour (Luneta Park)
  2. Intramuros Tour
  3. Metro Manila City Tour (by train) LRT Line 1 – yellow line for tourist sites
  4. Visiting Museums (National Museums, Art Gallery, and etc.)

  8. Fiestas and Festivals (Santacruzan Festival and etc.)
  9. Downtown Manila Tour
